Former state Sen. Loranne Ausley’s family is hopeful she will make a full recovery following an early November bicycle accident.

Ausley underwent neck surgery on Nov. 3 following a triathlon accident, her husband Bill Hollimon posted to her Facebook.

Ausley received treatment in Panama City before moving to a spinal and brain injury rehabilitation center in Atlanta, where she “is enjoying gentle yoga and walking on the treadmill” and “continues to make great strides forward in her recovery,” Hollimon posted to Ausley’s Facebook profile this week.

“While she would prefer a faster pace, Loranne is doing her best to slow down and let her body heal,” Hollimon wrote. “We remain hopeful that Loranne will make a full recovery.”

Ausley served in the Florida House from 2000-2008 and again from 2016-2020 before winning a seat in the Florida Senate, serving one term from 2020-2022 before losing reelection to Sen. Corey Simon.

During her time in the Legislature she sponsored legislation that created the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet and championed state employees and people with disabilities.

An attorney, Ausley is a long-time triathlete and is often seen around Tallahassee cycling or running or at the gym swimming. According to her law firm’s website, she is a five-time Ironman finisher and qualified for the 2024 Women’s World Ironman Championships in Nice, France. An Ironman competition includes a 112-mile bike ride, 26.2-mile run, and a 2.4-mile swim.

She practices law with her husband at Hollimon PA in Tallahassee, specializing in non-profit and election law, strategic advice, and general government consulting.

“Loranne is blessed to have such a strong support system and such an outpouring of love from friends and family,” Hollimon wrote. “Thank you for all of the thoughts, prayers, and cards. She has a long road ahead, and Loranne gains strength from the uplifting messages she receives.”
