Florida man seriously injured after flying homemade airplane in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.– A 78-year-old pilot was seriously injured in Volusia County after his airplane crashed in the woods.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) , the man flew an ultralight homemade airplane.

The man, identified as Vincent Grasso, went for a flight from a private airport on Jan. 30. Witnesses told deputies they saw the airplane take two large hard left bank turns, according to VCSO.

The witnesses told law enforcement they heard the airplane’s engine cut off. As the airplane went below the tree line in Oak Hill Woods, one witness said she heard a loud noise.

Homeowners arrived at the crash and found the airplane upside down in a tree, according to VCSO.
