WPBF 25 News hosted the Florida U.S. Senate Debate between Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and Democrat Congresswoman Val Demings on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Evening anchor Todd McDermott moderated the debate live from Palm Beach State College’s Lake Worth campus.

Topics in the debate included inflation, abortion, home insurance, immigration, voter rights, election fraud and foreign policy.

Florida has increasingly shifted rightward in recent election cycles, giving Rubio the advantage as Republicans now lead Democrats with voter registration in the state. But Demings clearly saw the debate as an opportunity to take Rubio on forcefully as she tries to become the state’s first Black senator.
