Charlie Crist pledges order banning state action on abortions
Democratic gubernatorial candidate and current U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist on Friday staked a strong pro-abortion rights stand, pledging an executive order banning state agencies from interfering with abortion access.
The proposed order, which Crist said he would sign on his first day as Governor, would prohibit state agencies from doing anything to prevent abortions that would meet the standards spelled out in the now-jeopardized landmark Roe v. Wade decision.
Crist announced the move alongside abortion rights activists in Orlando, including Orlando Democratic Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, a former executive for Planned Parenthood.
